Samantha & Andrew Get Married at That Amazing Place

Samantha and Andrew Say ‘I Do’ at That Amazing Place

There’s a reason why we’re called That Amazing Place – and that’s because we truly want to make every experience at our venue feel amazing. This is what we did for Samantha and Andrew, from their first viewing That Amazing Place four years ago to the moment they drove away as husband and wife.

Samantha and Andrew met on their first night of university in Cambridge. In that moment, they hoped to make new friends – little did they know that they’d met the love of their lives! Living only four doors down from each other, they quickly grew close, and have been inseparable ever since.

The Venue

For Samantha and Andrew, That Amazing Place was love at first sight. Samantha explains, “It had the wow factor of a big old style manor house, but was modern, which was exactly what we were looking for. The fact we had the whole place to ourselves was amazing and made it feel extremely personal.” They were also particularly impressed by the gardens and lake, which made for stunning photographs. The fact that guests could conveniently stay at our bed and breakfast also helped Samantha and Andrew decide that this was the venue for them.

Theme and Entertainment

Although the happy couple didn’t have a set theme for the wedding, they wanted to make sure it was modern and had a few personal touches. White, blush pink and wood effects were used throughout the wedding, making the marquee the perfect location for the wedding breakfast and reception.

The entertainment was provided by Andy from Herts Events who, as always, went the extra mile to ensure that everything went smoothly – he even asked Samantha and Andrew about songs that they particularly liked and disliked. As soon as the music started playing, he had everyone dancing their hearts out, and our bride and groom danced all night without ever sitting down!

Samantha and Andrew also had a photobooth supplied by Pictureblast. “These made for amazing extra favours for guests to take away with them,” Samantha explains. “And we got to see all the photos taken in our own little memory book.” This proved to be a particular hit with their guests too – one of their friends took a video on the photobooth where they pretended to interview other guests about the wedding. This was made particularly hilarious because the guests were still wearing the photobooth’s props! The next day, Samantha and Andrew were able to watch the video back and giggle at the sight of their friends and family being interviewed in costume.

Flowers

The flowers, created for the couple by Bliss Flowers, matched the wedding’s blush tones perfectly. Summer-y bouquets were placed as centrepieces for the top table and registrar’s table, which matched the bride’s stunning bouquet. Baby’s breath adorned the pew ends, and the bridesmaids had bouquets of baby’s breath and pink roses. To top it all off, more blush rose petals were scattered on the breakfast tables and on the aisle floor. All together, the flowers made a beautifully romantic setting for Samantha and Andrew’s wedding.

Catering

A great wedding has to have great catering, and that was definitely the case here! Premier Crew Hospitality provided all of the food and drink, starting off with Pimms as a welcome drink and canapes (including halloumi sesame bites, pulled pork mini wraps with caramelised onion, roasted duck on potato, and mini burgers). For the wedding breakfast, everyone feasted on pate & melba toast for the starter, chicken with roast potatoes and veg for the main and chocolate brownie with ice cream for dessert.

Samantha was particularly pleased that there was a children’s menu too.

“They catered really well for the kids, who had burgers, chips, and garlic bread.”

To round off the evening, everyone tucked into fish and chip cones which were a real hit! Our bride says,

“All of our guests absolutely loved the food and said the customer service was outstanding by all staff during the entire day.”

Dress

Samantha found her stunning dress at Wed2Be in Chelmsford. An ivory A-line dress with a top corset, it had a sweetheart neckline and was covered in glittering sequins. Samantha was in love with the dress, but admitted that she worried if she would be able to fit in the loo with it on! Luckily, that wasn’t an issue.

Special Moments

There were so many special (and hilarious) moments during Samantha and Andrew’s wedding, which photographer Lottie Judd was able to capture perfectly! “One of the most memorable moments of our wedding had to be when the registrar accidentally said husband rather than wife, which had the wedding guests and us in absolute hysterics!” says Samantha.

“Our second most memorable moment was the ducks walking in front of our romantic photo shoot in front of the lake. They loved getting involved and again made great photos.”

She also had to mention the moment that her entrance song started playing.

“This was the first time I felt nervous the whole morning. But once I took a deep breath, I was fine. My husband, on the other hand, started bawling from the first note!”

It is such a privilege to help couples such as Samantha and Andrew create the wedding day of their dreams. We wish our newlyweds a long and happy life together, and hopefully we’ll see them back at That Amazing Place sometime soon!

Adele & Douglas’ big day

Adele & Douglas’ big day

Adele & Douglas’ big day at That Amazing Place, Wedding Venue, Essex.

That Amazing Place are pleased to be able to share another story of a perfect wedding day.

Today it’s the turn of Adele and Douglas, who have been together for 4 and a half years and met over drinks.

The Venue

For these newlyweds there was never another venue in the running.

Adele says “When we first started dating, we often walked past That Amazing Place on a Sunday, and always thought it looked beautiful. When the venue held its first wedding open day, we passed by and said then it would be a lovely place to get married.”  When they set their wedding date, it was the only venue they considered and hoped that the inside was as stunning as the outside.  They weren’t disappointed, “We knew it was perfect for us and speaking with Hannah and Paul confirmed this. The size of the venue, the decor, the rooms, the grounds – it really is amazing! Plus everyone at the venue are so accommodating.”

Our dog friendly policy was also a big pull for this couple and made the wedding all the more special.  Their cheeky canine friend just couldn’t help himself getting up to mischief, not only eating all of the best man’s canapes, but also breaking free from the bridesmaids to chase a duck!  This resulted in an impromptu swim across the lake and early exit from the wedding.

Theme and entertainment

Whilst Adele and Douglas didn’t have a theme, they really wanted a relaxed and fun wedding.  As Douglas is from Scotland, the rooms on site were perfect for family who travelled for the wedding.

The grounds and countryside surroundings made for some stunning photos from photographer Scott Miller, who captured lots of special moments to provide a beautiful lasting record of the day.

In the evening, our newlyweds choose a band called “The Beavers” to get everyone up out of their seats and partying the night away.

Adele said “Paul and Angie really helped as the band came with a lot of equipment, but nothing was too much trouble and they had lots of ideas on how we could make it work. The evening was so much fun, we didn’t stop dancing all night.”

Catering

Adele and Douglas opted for our twilight package and whilst they didn’t have a traditional wedding breakfast, this buffet option allowed for a sit-down meal in our picturesque hall.

As Douglas and several of his friends are chefs, it was important that the food was of an excellent standard.  We are pleased to report that our recommended supplier, Premier Crew, didn’t let them down.

Adele said “Sarah helped us so much with quantities and suggestions.  We had so many comments on how good the food and service were.”

Flowers

The flowers were provided by Jo at Browns Blooms and Balloons and they were beautiful! Adele asked Jo to supply the flowers after seeing her arrangements at our open day in May.

Our bride and groom gave Jo a very loose brief of small vases, pink flowers and thistles and were really pleased with the results.

Adele said “It was great as she knew the venue inside out, so could immediately tell me how many small vases I would need to alternate with candles, and had ideas of how the flowers could be moved around during the day.”7

Dress

We think you’ll agree our beautiful bride looked stunning in her dress from Ritva Westinius.

As Adele is very petite, she sometimes struggles to find clothes that are a perfect fit, so to have something bespoke felt really special.

She said “It was so comfortable and practical, as well as being stunning! I especially loved how it transformed from daytime to evening, with the removable lace jacket and ingenious way the train hooked up to make it in to a strapless evening dress.”

Special Moments

Adele and Douglas both had an amazing, perfect day and agree there is nothing they would change about it.

They both found dancing on stage with the band using blow up guitars as a particularly memorable moment.  However, for Adele, one of the loveliest and most romantic moments was when her new husband declared it to be the best night of his life!

Adele said “Neither of us could stop smiling, we both just had so much fun, with all our closest friends and family in such a beautiful location.  Angie and her team worked so hard to make the day perfect, everything worked seamlessly behind the scenes and the day ran like clockwork. Paul was the perfect host, so much fun and made sure that everyone was having a really good time. We are so thankful that Paul and Jayne open up their beautiful home to weddings, it is all so personal and nothing is too much trouble.”

We are so pleased to have helped this lovely couple realise their dream of a fun, relaxed wedding day.  At That Amazing Place we love to see people enjoying their celebrations so much and feel proud to have been able to make it happen.  We wish Adele and Doug lots more fun, luck and love in a long and happy marriage.

At That Amazing Place, we believe it’s important to get to know our couples.

Our aim is ensuring we tailor-make their wedding to make it a dream day  to remember. Now it’s time to hear all about Lucy and Vicky’s dream day

This lovely couple have now been together for 6 years.  They met through friends whilst enjoying a night out in a bar.  Lucy was actually dating someone else, but knew it wasn’t working for her.  From the moment she saw Vicky she knew she’d met “the one”.  It really was a case of love at first sight!

The Venue

Lucy and Vicky looked at other wedding venues, but they knew they had found their perfect setting for their summer wedding when they came to visit our house in the picturesque Essex countryside.  For them there was just no competition, Lucy said “No other venue could compare with That amazing place, it’s simply beautiful.”

Theme and entertainment

Our lovely couple had no strong theme for the wedding, except “summer”.

That Amazing Place set in picturesque grounds with flowers in bloom and a lake, proved to be perfect for a wedding with summer as its central theme.

To provide some background music and create a welcoming, but sophisticated environment for their guests, our happy couple hired a saxophonist for background music during the drinks reception.

For the evening reception our recommended DJ, Andy from Herts Entertainment who never fails to get the party started.

Flowers

The happy couple decided on simple floral arrangements and bouquets consisting of mainly lilies and white roses from “Vicky’s Floral”.  A simple choice that looked stunning on the day.

Our gorgeous brides both looked beautiful in their wedding dresses.  Vicky chose a traditional white dress with a stunning lace bodice from “Wed2be”.   Lucy selected a lace dress in a pretty blush colour that really complimented her skin tone, from “Enchanted Bridal Boutique”.  We think you’ll agree they both looked gorgeous!

Special Moments

Lucy and Vicky found it difficult to pinpoint just one moment from a perfect day of exquisite memories.  However, they agreed that the moment they first saw each other, on the patio wearing their dresses was very special and will remain forever engraved in their memories.

The other standout moment for this couple was the first dance.  Lucy said “I was so scared about the first dance as I have two left feet and Vicky is a really good dancer, but it was perfect and I wouldn’t change it for the world.”

Rosa And Alex Wedding Stories at That Amazing Place

Rosa And Alex Wedding Stories at That Amazing Place

Rosa And Alex Wedding, That Amazing Place, Harlow, Essex

Here at our stunning country venue, That Amazing Place, we enjoy sharing the stories of the beautiful weddings and once in a lifetime experiences we help to create.  In this blog, we feature the story of Rosa and Alex, who celebrated their wedding with us in June 2019.

Our happy couple have known each other since their school days and had previously dated when younger.  Eventually, true love found a way to reconnect them together as a couple and they have now been together for 3 years.

The Venue

Rosa and Alex looked at a few other wedding venues, but we’re happy to say That Amazing Place was the one that really stood out for them as “everyone was so friendly”.  However, the thing that really sealed the deal for this lovely couple, was our policy of allowing dogs to attend the wedding.

At our stunning venue, we truly recognise that dogs are an important part of many families.  We think weddings should be tailor-made to the individual couples tastes and always strive to prioritise the things that make their day and our service special.  Rosa said “Thank you so much, our day was just perfect! Angie was amazing and everything ran so smoothly!”

Theme and entertainment

Whilst Rosa and Alex didn’t have a particular theme, they chose to dress our neutral venue in their colour scheme of blush and rose gold.

To provide some background music and create a welcoming, but sophisticated environment for their guests, our happy couple hired a saxophonist for background music during the drinks reception.  For the evening reception they used our recommended DJ, Andy from Herts Entertainment who never fails to get the party started.

Flowers

Whilst Rosa didn’t have any specific requests for flowers, she knew she didn’t want anything too perfect or too disordered.  Caroline at the Orchid Room in Wickford was able to offer her expert advice and supplied all the flower and table arrangements.

Tall vases with large arrangements looked simply stunning in the wedding breakfast room.

Rosa said “the flowers and arrangements turned out to be beautiful”.

Dress

This beautiful bride is very petite, so found choosing a dress for her frame a little challenging.  In the end, Rosa selected a fitted dress with spaghetti straps, a gorgeous large lace train and a beautiful, detailed back.   We think you will agree, that Rosa made the right choice and looked simply stunning.

Catering

Our newlyweds opted to go with Premier Crew for the catering and a formal three course meal.

Premier Crew were also able to offer guests an option for each course and this worked really well as they catered to all tastes.

All the guests agreed that the food was delicious.  For the food in the evening, the bride and groom opted for a pizza oven, which is housed in a converted horse box, providing a talking point and delicious catering all at the same time!  The fresh made to order pizzas “went down a treat’”.

Special Moments

All our weddings are always full of special moments and this one was no different.  Rosa said if she had to pick one, it was when they first laid eyes on each other at the start of the ceremony, in the picturesque setting by the lake.  Our lovely bride said “We both found it hard not to shed a tear when we saw each other”.

eresa and Ugnius Wedding Stories at That Amazing Place

Today, we continue with our wedding stories blog.  Our wedding stories blog highlights stunning romantic weddings held at our beautiful venue, That Amazing Place.

Wedding Stories July

Teresa and Ugnius tell us all about what led them to tie the knot and create their perfect wedding day at That Amazing Place.

The happy couple initially met at a party in January 2017 and whilst Ugnius can remember every detail of their meeting, it is all a little hazy for Teresa!

Whilst it wasn’t quite love at first sight for this happy couple, romance later blossomed.

In March 2018  both were persuaded to go on a road trip by their best friends, who were interested in each other.

After spending five days with Ugnius, Teresa suddenly realised that she had found ‘the one’ and they ended up becoming a couple before their friends did.

The Venue

Neither Teresa or Ugnius are City people, so they found the countryside location of our venue to be exactly what they were looking for.

Teresa said “We love nature and the outdoors, and we liked the idea of being able to have the ceremony and reception all on the same property.”

What made the venue especially enticing for the couple was the fact that the two families and the wedding party, were all able to spend time together at the venue before the wedding.

As Teresa’s family are based in South Africa and Ugnius is from Lithuania, the wedding was the first time they were all able to spend time together and get to know both sides of the family.

The couple found the support and service that we are able to offer here at That Amazing Place key to enjoying their dream day, Teresa went on to say “Angie and Paul were great, they make you feel like you’re at your own home, in your backyard and just having your friends over.  Angie was phenomenal and made sure that the entire day ran smoothly from beginning to end, it never felt like there was lots of waiting around.”

Theme and entertainment

Whilst Teresa and Ugnius didn’t have a strong theme as such, they were determined to keep the day simple, relaxed with a touch of vintage vibe.

Teresa was lucky in having a graphic designer as a close friend, who designed stunning wedding stationary incorporating the national flowers of South Africa and Lithuania with succulents (Teresa’s favourites).

The most important consideration for the happy couple was that everything bought for the wedding could be re-used or re-purposed.

They sourced most of the decorations themselves and then gifted the table decorations to family and Bridesmaids.

The Wedding Cake

HoneyBee Bakes created an amazing bespoke cake which turned out to be “simply striking”.

In order to keep the wedding as relaxed for the guests as possible and stop them becoming bored whilst photos were taken, the couple settled on the novel idea of a vintage games supplied by Rock The Day Styling.  Not only did the games keep everyone well entertained, they also provided some fun, candid photo opportunities.

Andy from Herts Events provided the music for the evening entertainment and Teresa said “Everyone who attended the wedding said it was the most relaxed, happy wedding they had ever attended and two couples have asked us to help plan their weddings now!”

Flowers

Teresa had a very specific, unique idea for the flowers and was keen to keep arrangements simple to ensure that as much as the bouquets could be re-purposed and replanted to thrive as living plants.

This unusual floral dream was brought to life by Suzanne at Little Tin Shed Flowers with simple small bouquets incorporating stunning proteas, succulents, a few roses, hydrangeas and a sprinkling of wild flowers.

The table centrepieces were lanterns with a candle, dressed with succulents, thus ensuring the conversation could flow freely without being impeded by large table arrangements.

Teresa’s mother was able to replant all the succulents used and they continue to thrive in a specially created a “Bridal Garden” in her backyard.

Dress

Teresa knew that a traditional wedding dress was not for her and instead decided to try to source one in her favourite colour of blue.  Google came up trumps with David’s Bridal and a stunning Vera Wang dress, which was just perfect!

Catering

Our newlyweds opted to go with Premier Crew Hospitality for the catering and said all the guests agreed that the food was impeccable.  They opted for some simple starters, and then a BBQ main, followed by fish and chip cones during the evening.  The feedback from the guests was a definite thumbs up.

Special Moments

During this stunning wedding there were several special moments, but at the top of the list was the touching first dance that Teresa had planned as a special surprise for her father.

Wedding Stories That Amazing Place Teresa & Ugnius July 2019 First Dance With Father

Teresa’s parents both love dancing, teaching others how to dance too and her father was a semi-professional ballroom dancer.

“My fondest childhood memories were when I was about 3 years old, of dad coming home from work and I’d be waiting for him by the front door. I would put on music the minute I saw his car in the driveway and he would walk through the front door and immediately pick me up and start dancing with me. This was our routine until I was about 10 years of age. There is a particular song, which really means a lot to us both, so with my husband’s permission my first dance was with my dad to Paul Simons – Father and Daughter, a symbolic last dance as Miss Hilder.  When the song ended my dad spun me round into my Husband’s arms, and we had our first dance as husband and wife. Lots of happy tears!” Teresa

Another moment that will always evoke happy memories of a special day, was when the groom first saw his lovely bride.

“My husband’s face when he saw me is a moment I will never forget. He isn’t the most emotive human, and his family all said they knew I was the one for him as I was the first one to make him laugh in 10 years! But when he turned around and saw me, his face broke into the biggest grin and he didn’t stop smiling the whole day. Neither of us did! Our photographers were wanting some non-smiling photos. Well, that didn’t happen as we both couldn’t stop grinning!”

In Summary

We are so pleased to have been part of this lovely couple’s special day, which really was a wedding with a difference.  We wish them both a long and very happy life together filled with love and laughter.  We hope to see them in the future to help celebrate many anniversaries and create many more special memories for them to share.

Hannah and Jamie’s Wedding Day

Hannah and Jamie’s Wedding Day

Hannah and Jamie Wedding, That Amazing Place, Easter 2019

Hannah and Jamie Wedding That Amazing Place Harlow July 2019

Brendan O’Sullivan Photography

In our latest Real Wedding blog of our country wedding venue, we’re meeting the beautiful Hannah and her handsome groom Jamie.

This happy couple were together 9 and a half years before they tied the knot in a day that can only be described as, spectacular. After meeting at University in North Wales in 2009 and their first date ending with a Chinese takeaway, these beautiful people fell for each other hook, line and sinker and the rest they say, is history.

Here’s the happy couple themselves giving us a little insight into their magical day right here at That Amazing Place, the ultimate country wedding venue in Essex.

The Venue

Hannah and Jamie Wedding That Amazing Place Harlow July 2019

Brendan O’Sullivan Photography

Hannah and Jamie stumbled upon That Amazing Place completely by chance as they were actually visiting another venue nearby.

With an off the cuff decision to visit our country wedding venue, they walked in and decided it was the one, “On the drive home we stopped at a country pub to talk about the venue. We both agreed that was the venue for us. We contacted Angie the next day! The welcome we had that day was true to the welcome and warmth we would receive throughout our wedding planning and beyond our wedding day from the team at That Amazing Place.”

Hannah also went on to say, “From start to finish we couldn’t have asked for more! From day one Angie kept us updated with all the information we needed. The owners are so welcoming and made you feel at home and Angie keeps the day running like clockwork. On the day we didn’t need to think about anything, it all happened and was sorted for us, leaving us to soak in the best day of our lives and spend it with family and friends!”

Theme and Entertainment

As their wedding took place over the Easter weekend, they decided to create a nod toward the April holiday by creating wedding favours in the form of Easter baskets filled with mini eggs. They also had a much larger basket created filled with even more Easter eggs for everyone to help themselves to. In terms of their theme, they wanted to capture a true spring feeling so went with yellows and navy blues. They also had daffodil flowers set off beautifully with the greys and silvers of the thistle. Hannah explained, “We didn’t even need to tell the team at That Amazing Place what we had in mind; they already knew. They set the whole place out better than we could have planned! We used their candelabras, which brought some drama to the room and then simple silver tea lights which looked very pretty on the tables.”

For their entertainment, they used the amazing Andy from Herts Entertainment. He played all of the couples suggested songs and kept the dancefloor packed for the entire night. Jamie explained, “he even had an encore as the guests didn’t want the party to end!”

Flowers

Hannah and Jamie Wedding That Amazing Place Harlow July 2019

Brendan O’Sullivan Photography

Hannah and Jamie chose the incredible Barbara from Lillies of Wanstead for their flowers. They wanted lowkey flowers, natural, tight bouquets and that’s exactly what they got. Hannah explained, “They looked beautiful with colours of yellow, cream and greens, the table arrangement was similar to the bouquets but had thistles in it! We had buttonholes for the bridal party. Barbara delivered the flowers on the morning and laid everything out ready! It was so exciting seeing them for the first time and they were perfect!”

Dress

Hannah got her dress from a designer called Diana Harbridge in Chester, her place of birth. Her dress was a beautiful A line number made of the finest satin material. It nipped in at the waist and flowed out. It was finished off perfectly with sequined detailing which kept it simple yet elegant, “I liked the simple and clean design! I felt so special! I did keep knocking things over with my long veil though!”

Catering

The happy couple chose Magpie Catering as their caterers for the entire day and said it was nothing short of fabulous, “The food was so tasty and plentiful! All the guests were complimenting the meals and the service was impeccable! Would definitely recommend these caterers for any wedding or any event!”

Special Moments

A particularly special moment for the couple came at the moment Hannah walked down the aisle. While it’s usually common place for the father of the bride to settle the brides nerves, in this instance it was the other way around as Hannah had to comfort her father Mike. Mike was so overcome with emotions on the day, that Hannah kept reassuring him, which evidently meant her focus was instead taken off of her own nerves.

This was actually a great distraction because in Jamie’s words, “Hannah would have definitely cried.”

For Hannah, seeing Jamie at the alter made her feel calm and forget any nerves that may have crept in, “Seeing him made me feel at ease and I started to relax.”

Being a part of this special couple’s happy day was nothing short of glorious. We wish them both a long and happy marriage and hope we get to see them soon to celebrate their continued anniversaries, hopefully in the very country wedding venue they said ‘I Do’.
